My practice is informed by psychoanalysis. This involves inviting that patient to speak freely and openly, and listening with attention to what is unconscious. Psychoanalytic-informed therapy is suitable for working with a wide range of symptoms and invites the possibility of creative approaches to long-standing issues.
When contacted by a new patient, the first step is a brief phone call to get a sense of the reason for seeking therapy and to answer any initial questions. If it seems a psychoanalytic approach might be of interest, then some preliminary sessions are booked in to discuss the patient’s concerns in more depth, take a history, and to decide if further work would be beneficial and of interest. Psychoanalytic therapy is particular to the individual and no two treatments are the same.
